The challenges to our waters are unprecedented and acute with acidification, warming and sea level rise, pollution, and the loss of critical marine biodiversity.
Maryland has a growing maritime tech economy which requires more industry leaders, knowledge partners, and investors. There’s a lot of investors investing in climate tech today, and Maryland can do more to create new companies and new jobs (both working class and STEM jobs) in BlueTech. We want to develop and grow an equitable workforce, build more companies, and share our story better. We want to create a robust bluetech economy and provide more opportunities to encourage public-private sector collaboration and collectively solve our climate change problems. Our goal is to attract more of the myriad of climate tech investors and blue tech entrepreneurs to Maryland, and create more collaborative opportunities and solutions to solve our climate change problems. We are defining “blue tech” as technological innovations in aquaculture, offshore wind, sustainable maritime, stormwater and flooding management, harbor, bay and ocean restoration, living ocean, urban waterfront, and more. BlueTechMaryland is a partnership with a goal to make Maryland one of the top three BlueTech innovation clusters in the world.
